Chewing Stars

I haven’t looked up at the stars in so long
But tonight, I’m still alive underneath them
And they look so delicious as I stare at them
Some sweet
Some savoury
A few taste like salted caramel or cookies and cream
Others are burning with the hottest spices
Tonight I took them all in with heaping spoonfuls
I pulled them down and stuffed my cheeks
I chewed them carefully
I filled my stomach, lungs, heart with their shards
Because today, somehow
They didn’t stab and burn on the way down
