I’m certain
you’ll find your way back
into my memories again
You grasp life with an iron fist
Wrestling it to the ground day by day
In battles among falling petals
Under night skies…
“Keep writing poems, friend.”
I tell the woman facing me.
“You still have more to say…
or the ones I pass along to you
that may not speak to you
but only to me
in a way I can never explain
Wishing to transform
as I turn away once more
I become nothing
Warm forest at noon:
insects and sunlight both
on decaying leaves
What rots me from the inside out
is an ocean tide on the shoreline of my love
with harsh waves that sting with brine
and undercurrents hidden below
that have drowned so many
As many times before
the dread that plagues this gray
has receded again
and the night descends over me with calm
July 22, 2026
Sunlight drifts through leaves
as if to kiss the dead fox
with a father’s love
The gentle parts have
scattered away clutching words
far beyond my reach
Why am I shown this
He’s panicking, mouth open
But sound doesn’t exist in this place
