Dragged

Ebbing and flowing
Under the pull of the moon
And the heat of the sun
Rising in my throat to choke me
Before crashing on sharpened ribs
Over and over again

I’ve kept my head above the surface
Desperately breathing for so many years
But I’m tired
I’m so tired
I feel myself slowing
My will is fading
I’m so tired
I’m still trying to swim towards shore
But it’s further than it’s ever been
I’m finally starting to understand
I’ll never reach it
There’s not enough time left

I’m so tired
I can’t swim forever
So I start to let go
I relax
I take one more breath
Accept my fate

And finally

Dragged by the weight in my pockets
Of all the time I’ve stolen

I start to drown
