Every Little Thing (That You May Not Understand)

For every little thing
that catches me, seizes me
that I pass on to you
that you may not see as I do
that fires the strangest neurons
that you may not understand

for every one of them shared
flippantly, gravely
with smirk or sombre smile

for the ones I pass along to you
that may not speak to you
but only to me
in a way I can never explain

they are each a word
a line, a poem
a painting
a story or a song
that struck me in some way
that touched me
in some way that I cannot pass along
to most

but you
you among thousands

on your island of safety
in a sea of judgement
where the mind that doesn’t fit anywhere else
riddled with paths to nowhere
and scattered abrupt ends

seen without scorn

fits
